Totally Twisted

I thought I'd shake things up a bit. I've put away my fro - temporarily -  and am now sporting some two-strand twists. After all, it IS Friday, right? I've had twists before - of varying types and lengths. One set was done with the aid of some added hair for length. I had these done at an African World of Braids shop downtown by the lovely Fatima. the whole process took about 3.5 - 4 hours. They didn't last that long and they were quite expensive. Now, it wasn't the fault of  Ms. Fatima that they didn't last long...something about the added hair irritated my skin so I took them down.

I had another set done this past December at a lovely shop in Raleigh, Sophia Sunflower Salon. Love love love this place. The entire process didn't take nearly as long, granted I didn't have any hair added this time. I would probably have gone back to Sophia's place to have my latest set of twists done except I was anxious for new style and wasn't sure when she would be able to get me in  (ok, so I never said I was a patently patient person - at least not when it comes to a hair style change or PURSES, but that's another story). So, I did them myself. It took me about 3 hours. Not too bad, I watched a movie and part of another one. Result? Well, they aren't nearly as neat and perfect as they would be had I gone to a salon but it didn't cost me anything but a little time and effort. One of my coworkers said they were cute...make that two (another coworker just walked over to check them out - all POSITIVE!).

So, the plan is to leave the twists in as long as possible - I'm hoping for through the weekend but I tend to get antsy, lol. The general consensus seems to state that the longer they are left in, the better the twist pattern for the twist out. Man, I hope I don't start unraveling the twists anytime soon. Anyways *eyeroll*, my plan is to leave them in and then untwist them, being careful not to disturb the twist pattern, and rock a twist out! Two styles in one?! What a bargain.

Work It

I found an old photo of me from many moons ago. I'm talking acid washed jeans, big glasses, big hair - the whole 9 yards. It's just a casual shot - me and a friend chilling on the couch (uh, no I don't plan to post it LOL) - but it got me thinking about yester-year or days of old (sheesh, that sounds kinda knightly)...You know, those days when your biggest worries included "are the quarter pounder combos on sale this week? Is HE going to ask me out? For Prom??" (HE didn't but I went to prom anyway and had a BLAST!) This is also about the time I got my first taste of adulthood - A JOB! A real one! Like actually doing things for someone other than my parents and grandparents in order to maintain my allowance (yes, I was one of those kids). Employee ID, Clock-In/Out, an actual check - shoot couldn't tell me nothing. I was a working WOMAN after all (okay so a working TEEN but still, LOL)  Guess where I worked? No, go ahead I'll wait... Time's u...

You Don't Have To be so mean

Someone asked me the other day " hey, don't you ever get tired of being so happy and positive all the time? How can you be so NICE?" I was thrown! Ok maybe not completely since I've heard a little about this before. "You always have a smile on your face...you're so happy...you're so NICE to EVERYBODY...I really like talking to you...thank you for being so kind...-it's rare" Even though I've heard these comments before, it still surprises me a little. Not that people think I'm nice but that so many people experience the opposite - often enough that they are shocked enough to comment. Makes you, ok me, wonder why are so many people not nice? Just plain old mean? How do they get that way? Can't make me believe that people are born that way...hmm course i have a seen pictures of newborn babies with some pretty mean mugs. Looking like they've been here before and experienced all the atrocities of life ALREADY!  But really - why?  ...

Very Superstitious

Do you think black cats portend bad tidings? Are you triskaidekaphobic (fear of the number 13)? Growing up, I used to hear all sorts of things that were supposedly bad luck or could bring on something that you'd rather not, well, bring on. There was the one about walking under a ladder...or how many of you remember that little ditty about stepping on a crack and breaking your Mama's back? Yeah? I thought you might LOL  I asked a few people about any superstitions that they may have heard/been told. Not all of them are omens of doom and gloom. Some are kinda funny and some you might even want to have happen. Like this first one: If palm of your left hand is itching, you're going to receive some money.       Okay, that's a superstition that I can deal with. Now don't go rubbing your left hand on poison ivy to make your palm itchy to get money. The only thing you're going to do is end up with itchy palms that will spread and have you bathing in oatmeal and ch...
